Strike Causes Petrol Shortage in Karachi

Strike

Petrol Shortage Hits Karachi Amid PPDA Strike. Reports indicate that the PPDA’s orders caused petrol outlets in Karachi and around Pakistan to shut down at 6 a.m. today, triggering a significant strike that has affected gasoline availability. Sources also mention the ongoing supply of petroleum products through terminals operated by Pakistan State Oil (PSO) and other oil marketing organizations.

In the meantime, the Oil Tanker Owners Association has withdrawn itself from the petrol dealer. According to Shams Shahwani, President of the Oil Tanker Owners Association, gasoline is being provided to railways, airports, and power plants.

On Thursday, Pakistan State Oil (PSO) stated that petroleum products will be available throughout the country. PSO verified that its supply network is fully operational, ensuring that petrol pumps would stay replenished during the strike.

The PSO underlined its willingness to serve the people. ‘PSO is always ready to serve the people,’ the spokeswoman stated.

Earlier, negotiations between the government delegation and the All Pakistan Petroleum Dealers group ended in an impasse as the group continued its nationwide strike on Friday.

Following the All-Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association’s strike call, the government conducted negotiations with them, but reports say the standoff continues.

The petrol shortage in Karachi has caused significant inconvenience to residents, with long queues forming at remaining open petrol pumps. The impact of the strike has been felt across various sectors, affecting transportation, logistics, and daily commuting for many citizens. Businesses using petrol-powered machinery and vehicles are facing operational challenges, raising economic concerns in the region

Despite assurances from PSO and ongoing negotiations, the situation remains tense, with no immediate resolution in sight. The authorities urge the public to conserve petrol where possible and stay updated on developments regarding the strike’s progress. People are closely watching the government’s response and its ability to handle the strike’s effects as the situation develops.
