Karachi heatwave has resulted in the deaths of at least 20 people in Pakistan’s largest metropolis over the past 48 hours, with dozens more suffering from heatstroke, police reported on Tuesday.
Emergency officials discovered 10 additional dead bodies on the streets of Karachi and other locations on Tuesday, following the 10 bodies transported to the morgue on Monday. All of the deceased are probable victims of the ongoing Karachi heatwave, with temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius.
Rescuers and health officials confirmed that the bodies showed no visible injuries. “Most of the bodies are regular drug users who died from prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures in the city and lay on footpaths or roadsides,” said Summaiya Syed, a police surgeon
In addition to the fatalities, Dr. Syed reported that emergency rooms in three government hospitals were receiving a high volume of heatstroke cases due to the Karachi heatwave.
