One of the most widely anticipated seven-day winter festivals of 2024 began in Gilgit, with the cultural spectacular taking place on the frozen Khalti Lake in the Ghizer District, illuminating the district’s stunning scenery.
Many officials, sportsmen, artists, citizens, and visitors attended the event, creating a lively environment. Many local artists showcased their abilities, and an ice hockey contest took center stage, capturing the event’s interest.
The Gilgit Baltistan Department of Tourism and Culture ensured that sports events, like ice hockey, ice football, ice skating, and other games, were held during the festival to promote Gilgit’s athletic culture.
To exhibit Gilgit Baltistan’s unique culture, various food stalls have been set up to promote the district’s indigenous cuisine, and a musical night has been organized for the second day of the festival.
A conference titled ‘Eyes Wide Open: Exploring Conservation Challenges’ will also be held to create awareness among the public about climate change and environmental concerns. It will provide knowledge on the negative consequences of climate change, particularly in Gilgit Baltistan.
The Ice Hockey Tournaments will be held on the ice rinks that were built for the matches; the festival will end on January 24. The tournament’s top performers will also be awarded awards.
