Sindh esports championship makes history with Rs1.5 million prize

Sindh esports championship

The Sindh government, through its Department of Sports and Youth Affairs and in collaboration with Vidermedia, has launched the Sindh esports championship — marking Pakistan’s first fully government-backed tournament of its kind.

The Sindh esports championship features two major competitive titles: Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) and Valorant. Participants had to pick only one game to compete in. The event carried a generous prize pool of Rs 1.5 million.

The championship unfolded in two phases. It began with online qualifiers from November 7 to 12, followed by a LAN-style Grand Final in Karachi on November 22. Over 400 teams and more than 2,500 players nationwide registered to take part, underlining the rapid rise of competitive gaming in the country.

To manage the tournament smoothly, all teams and players were required to join the official Discord server. The platform managed all tasks, from communications to match scheduling and lobbies, especially for Valorant. Meanwhile, CS2 teams played on FACEIT’s Middle East servers, while Valorant teams competed on Bahrain servers.

Importantly, travel and accommodation were provided for teams that qualified for the LAN finals in Karachi, making the event more accessible. Additionally, fans could attend the finals in person; however, the organisers limited visitor seats. Meanwhile, they shared live brackets for both CS2 and Valorant on Challonge and continuously updated them in real time.

In the end, Team Legion emerged victorious, defeating Wah Wah to claim the Sindh esports championship. Both finalists received Rs 500,000 each, awarded by Sindh’s Sports Minister in a closing ceremony. At the event, the minister said he plans to increase the prize pool in future editions.

The Sindh esports championship marks a big step for gaming and shows stronger government support for digital sports in Pakistan.
