Pakistan is set to move forward with its long-delayed 5G spectrum auction, despite facing regulatory, financial and technical hurdles. Government officials said preparations are underway to auction the required spectrum bands, aiming to introduce next-generation mobile connectivity and strengthen the country’s digital economy.
Authorities acknowledged challenges such as high reserve prices, infrastructure readiness, and the financial health of telecom operators, but stressed that delaying the process further could slow innovation and economic growth. The Ministry of IT and telecom regulators reiterated that 5G rollout would support sectors including e-commerce, health, education and smart infrastructure once spectrum allocation is completed.
