Karachi: The first recognized international marathon in Karachi attracted over 1,500 participants, including both local and foreign athletes. The event was organized by Sports in Pakistan in partnership with the Sindh government. Speaking as a major guest, Dr. Junaid Shah, Minister for Sports, Culture, and Youth, Government of Sindh, stated that the international marathon in Karachi was a significant success for Pakistan since it was arranged to a high standard, comparable to marathons conducted in Paris, London, and New York.
The marathon was a huge success for the country and will be a regular event in the future. The distance categories available included the full marathon (42.2km), half marathon (21.1km), 5k (5km), and marathon relay. The Marathon Relay included teams of athletes, with each completing one-quarter (10.55km) of the whole marathon course. The winners received cash awards ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 500,000 in various categories and positions.
