Nahid Rana Reprimanded After ICC Code of Conduct Breach

Nahid Rana Reprimanded

Nahid Rana reprimanded after the International Cricket Council (ICC) officially sanctioned the Bangladesh fast bowler for breaching its Code of Conduct during the opening ODI against Australia in Dhaka. Although Bangladesh celebrated a memorable victory over Australia, Rana’s aggressive celebration after dismissing Australian batter Josh Inglis overshadowed part of his impressive bowling performance. The ICC ruled that his actions crossed the line of acceptable on-field behaviour and issued an official reprimand.

The incident unfolded in the 11th over of Australia’s innings when Nahid Rana removed Josh Inglis with a fiery delivery. Moments after taking the wicket, the Bangladesh speedster charged toward the departing batter and used inappropriate language during his celebration.

“A player shall not use language, actions, or gestures that are obscene, offensive, or insulting during an international match,” according to Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which Rana’s conduct violated, the ICC said.

The reprimand for Nahid Rana means the 22-year-old avoided a pecuniary penalty but gained one demerit point on his disciplinary record. It is his second infraction in 24 months, which has earned him two demerit points.

Under ICC regulations, players who accumulate four or more demerit points within two years face suspension points that can eventually lead to match bans if further offences occur. Rana admitted the offence and accepted the punishment proposed by ICC International Panel Match Referee Prakash Bhatt. Since he accepted responsibility, officials did not require a formal disciplinary hearing.

The charge came from on-field umpires Alex Wharf and Gazi Sohel. Third umpire Ahsan Raza and fourth umpire Morshed Ali Khan also reported the incident. Level 1 breaches are the lowest category under the ICC disciplinary system. However, repeated offences can lead to tougher penalties and even suspensions.

Ironically, the sanction came on a day when Rana played a key role in one of Bangladesh’s biggest ODI victories over Australia. The young fast bowler produced an outstanding spell. He troubled Australia’s batting line-up with his pace and aggression. His dismissal of Josh Inglis proved crucial in Bangladesh’s successful defence of their total. However, his celebration became the biggest talking point after the match.

Nahid Rana has rapidly become one of Bangladesh’s most promising fast bowlers. His ability to bowl consistently above 145 km/h has added a new dimension to Bangladesh’s pace attack. However, international cricket demands more than raw pace and competitive intensity. Players must also control their emotions on the field. Passion is important, but discipline matters just as much. Aggressive celebrations may inspire teammates and excite fans. Even so, players must stay within the ICC’s Code of Conduct. Rana currently has two demerit points on his record. He remains well clear of a suspension, but another offence would increase the risk of tougher disciplinary action. As his international career grows, maintaining composure will be just as important as his bowling speed.

The Nahid Rana reprimand event should be treated as a useful lesson, not as a terrible setback. Cricket thrives on passion, fast bowling, and emotional celebrations, but respecting opponents remains one of the sport’s defining values. Rana’s fearless attitude is one of his greatest strengths. If he combines that aggression with greater discipline, he has every chance to develop into one of Bangladesh’s premier fast bowlers in the years ahead.
