The Pakistani government has reduced the price of petrol by Rs2.71 per litre while increasing the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by 31 paisa. The revised rates took effect on Thursday, October 22, 2026, according to the Petroleum Division’s notification.
New Petrol and Diesel Prices in Pakistan
Under the latest adjustment, petrol is now available at Rs379.31 per litre, down from Rs382.02. Meanwhile, the price of high-speed diesel has risen to Rs390.11 per litre from Rs389.80.
The government continues to collect taxes and duties of Rs114 per litre on petrol and Rs100 per litre on diesel.
Impact on Consumers and Transport
Petrol price changes directly affect motorcyclists, private car owners, rickshaw drivers and other users of small vehicles. The latest reduction may provide some relief to commuters, although the overall impact on household expenses will depend on other costs.
Diesel is widely used by heavy transport vehicles, power plants and large generators. Even a small increase in diesel prices can add pressure to transport and operating costs, potentially affecting the prices of goods and services.

Government Measures Amid Fuel Price Fluctuations
The government has also reintroduced austerity measures in response to rising fuel costs and uncertainty linked to the Middle East conflict. These measures include requiring markets to close by 9pm and cutting official vehicles’ fuel allocations by 50% for three months.
Fuel prices have been subject to frequent revisions as international oil market conditions change. The government previously shifted to a daily pricing mechanism, assigning the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) responsibility for determining prices based on international market trends.
The latest adjustment brings a modest reduction for petrol users, while diesel consumers face a slight increase. Future prices will continue to depend on changes in international oil markets and the government’s pricing decisions.
