The Karachi Police has apprehended an individual accused of hacking over 100 women’s social-media and mobile accounts via malicious links. The suspect, identified as Sameer, admitted purchasing hacking tools for PKR 5,000 from a seller in Lahore.
During interrogation, Sameer revealed he targeted women on platforms such as WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook, gaining access to their devices, their Google accounts and downloading phone data including private photos and videos.
Investigators stated that more than 450 obscene videos were recovered from the suspect’s devices, and initial investigations indicate he may have victimised victims from more than 100 women.
The suspect reportedly targeted women from middle-income households by posing as someone offering online-earning opportunities and then sent them infected links. He then used the compromised data to coerce meetings.
A young woman from the Ranchore Lines area played a key role: after discovering her phone was hacked, she alerted her family, assisted police in arranging a meeting, enabling immediate arrest and seizure of incriminating evidence.
Law enforcement teams are now working with the Federal Investigation Agency Cyber Crime Wing to determine whether the stolen content was being sold or shared on the dark web.
