Residents of Karachi’s District West and Keamari will experience temporary water supply disruption on Tuesday due to vital maintenance work being carried out by the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC). The utility announced that it will shut down the Hub Pumping Station from 8 am to 10 pm to install a new control gate at the Hub Canal reservoir, a step it says is necessary to enhance the reliability of the city’s water system.
During the shutdown, hydrants at Crush Plant I and II will also remain closed, resulting in an estimated shortfall of about 50 million gallons of water for the day. Karachi normally receives around 650 million gallons per day, but officials said approximately 600 million gallons will still be supplied despite the ongoing maintenance.
KW&SC spokespersons explained that the existing control gate had been causing frequent disruptions, and its replacement is expected to improve system stability and long-term water delivery across affected areas. Authorities have urged residents to conserve water during the maintenance period and described the inconvenience as part of broader efforts to upgrade infrastructure.
