At least two policemen were martyred and 31 people injured after a powerful improvised explosive device (IED) blast struck Rustam Bazaar in Wana, located in South Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The explosion occurred in a busy market area where police officers were conducting routine patrols.
According to police officials, the explosive device had been planted near the entrance of a supermarket and was detonated either through a remote control or timed mechanism. The blast left several civilians and police personnel wounded, including 18 civilians among them children and multiple police officers.
Rescue teams and local residents rushed to the scene and shifted the injured to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Wana for treatment. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine those responsible for the attack and to enhance security in the region.
