The price of flour in Karachi has dropped by Rs16/kg

KARACHI: In a sigh of relief for the public, per kg flour price in Karachi has decreased by Rs16 in the city’s wholesale market.

The per kg flour is being offered for Rs106 per kg in Karachi’s wholesale market, following a Rs5 decline in per kg wheat to Rs87 in the city.

The 50kg flour bag sells at Rs5,300 in Jodia Bazaar.

Despite the price cut, the Karachi commissioner has yet to produce a new list, despite the fact that the commissioner fixed the per kg pricing of wheat at Rs123 for Ramazan.

On March 23, a shopkeeper in Karachi’s Jodia Bazaar, the country’s oldest and largest wholesale bazaar for vital items, was fined for selling wheat at a ‘lower price’ than the statutory rate.

The Karachi Wholesaler Grocers Group (KWGG) condemned the retailer’s fines, threatening a walkout in response to the ‘injustice’.

On Saturday, a team of Deputy Commissioners visited the market and verified the pricing of food products sold at various businesses at Jodia Bazaar. During the inspection, the DC discovered a shop selling cheaper flour.
