Super moon enthusiasts in Pakistan are in for a stunning celestial display tonight as the first supermoon of 2025 illuminates the night sky. The event will make the moon appear larger and brighter than usual due to its close proximity to Earth.
According to a spokesperson for Suparco (Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission), the super moon will become visible at 8:47 p.m., rising from the east shortly after sunset and setting in the west before sunrise.
What is a Super Moon?
A super moon occurs when the moon reaches its closest point to Earth in its orbit, called perigee. This makes the full moon appear significantly larger and brighter than a typical full moon.
Tonight, the moon will be approximately 224,000 miles from Earth, making it 6.6% larger and 13% brighter than usual, according to Suparco.
Super Moon’s Visibility in Pakistan
The super moon will rise from the eastern horizon after sunset and remain visible until early morning, offering sky-watchers across Pakistan a perfect chance to witness this rare spectacle.
Upcoming Supermoons in 2025
Pakistan will experience two more super moons later this year:
- November 5, 2025: The brightest supermoon of the year.
- December 5, 2025: The third and final supermoon of 2025.
Astronomers recommend viewing the super moon from open areas with minimal light pollution for the best experience of this dazzling lunar event.
