Sindh unveils historic Rs1.018 trn development plan for 2025-26

Sindh development plan 2025-26

The provincial Murad Ali Shah unveiled a record-size development plan — worth Rs 1.018 trillion — for 2025–26, covering the entire province of Sindh.

A significant portion — Rs 85.5 billion — is earmarked for projects in Karachi under the Local Government Department. These will include major water and sanitation schemes (such as the K-IV, KWSSIP-II and Hub Canal), new storm-water drains, and 228 related infrastructure works.

Beyond urban infrastructure, the plan prioritises climate-resilient infrastructure, post-flood rehabilitation, water conservation, irrigation improvements, and expansion of mass transit systems.

Social sectors are also covered: the plan allocates resources for upgrading hospitals and trauma centres, building new medical colleges, school rehabilitation and early-learning initiatives, plus broader social protection schemes.

Externally funded projects — from organisations like the World Bank, ADB, AIIB and JICA — worth approximately US $1.55 billion will complement local efforts, covering rural roads, irrigation, education, health, and flood-recovery infrastructure. A green-energy initiative in the Indus Delta (the “Delta Blue Carbon Project”) is expected to deliver annual carbon-credit revenue.

Sindh’s government says the comprehensive development agenda aims to deliver “resilience, prosperity, and equitable opportunity” across the province by accelerating infrastructure build-out and improving living standards.
