Shahrah-e-Faisal Set for Major Beautification and Road Upgrade in Karachi

Shahrah-e-Faisal beautification
KARACHI: Authorities have intensified beautification and improvement work along Shahrah-e-Faisal, one of Karachi’s major thoroughfares, with plans covering landscaping, greenery, road repairs, parking management, footpaths and removal of encroachments.

Landscaping and Greenery Work Underway

Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi reviewed the progress of ongoing work and directed relevant departments to improve both the appearance and overall condition of Shahrah-e-Faisal.

Plantation and landscaping activities are being carried out at several locations. Authorities are also installing hedges to cover exposed areas and reduce the visual impact of hanging cables.

American grass and natural greenery have already been planted near Fozia Wahab Bridge and Mansion Banquet, while boundary coloring and tile work is also in progress.

Roads and Footpaths to Be Improved

The development plan also includes road patchwork, improved cleanliness, footpath repairs, green belt maintenance and curb-stone painting.

Officials said encroachments and debris have been removed from Baloch Colony Bridge and Shahrah-e-Faisal flyovers. Unnecessary Jersey barriers beneath Baloch Colony Bridge have also been cleared.

Work on footpaths, road patching, painting and encroachment removal around Baloch Colony and Fozia Wahab flyovers has already been completed.

New U-Turn and Wider Road Cuts

A modern U-turn and wider cuts beneath Fozia Wahab Bridge have been completed to improve traffic movement. The surrounding area has also been asphalted as part of the upgrade.

Authorities are also addressing haphazard parking along service roads, particularly outside high-rise commercial buildings.

Organized Parking Planned

Officials have decided to establish organized parking on the green belt between Kawish Crown and Rumi Mosque.

The proposed parking areas will be paved to serve nearby commercial offices and help reduce congestion caused by vehicles parked along service roads.

Hanging Cables to Be Removed

Another major part of the project involves cleaning up the large number of hanging and unused cables along Shahrah-e-Faisal.

K-Electric, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and private cable operators will work together to remove or shift cables underground, helping improve the appearance and safety of the major road.
