Quetta Health Official Arrested Over Illegal Transport of Government Medicines

Quetta health official medicine transport arrest

Police in Quetta have detained a senior health official on charges of illegally transporting government-issued medicines intended for public hospitals. Officers from the New Sariab police station stopped a vehicle at the Mian Ghundi checkpoint on Mastung Road during a late-night security operation and recovered 30 cartons of drugs valued at over Rs10 million, according to law enforcement sources.

The individual identified himself as Dr. Muhammad Akbar, the District Health Officer (DHO) of Washuk, and was arrested at the scene. The seized medicines, which are supplied free of charge to patients at public health facilities, were allegedly being transported to Quetta for illicit sale in the local market, police officials said.

Police registered a formal case following the seizure and informed senior officials at the Balochistan Health Department. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the origin of the medicines and to determine whether the incident is part of a broader network involved in the misuse or smuggling of government medical supplies.

Authorities described the arrest as a significant enforcement action aimed at curbing the illegal diversion of essential medicines and safeguarding public health services in the province.
