Polio worker was shot dead in Karachi’s Ahsanabad, prompting Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah to take immediate notice of the tragic incident and direct police to arrest the perpetrators without delay.
According to police, the polio worker, identified as 30-year-old Rahmanullah, was attacked on Thursday near Jamia Al-Rashid Madrasa on the Super Highway. The father of two and resident of Scheme 33 Quetta Town was employed as a field monitor for an NGO, responsible for supervising vaccination drives in Yusuf Goth, Surjani Town.
The polio worker was reportedly on his way to work when three armed men on a motorcycle tried to stop him. When he did not comply, they opened fire, hitting him in the abdomen. Rahmanullah died on the spot. Police recovered a .30 bore pistol shell and confirmed that CCTV footage of the incident is being reviewed for leads.
Family members of the polio worker said his phone, wallet, and motorcycle were found intact, indicating the incident might have been a robbery attempt gone wrong rather than a targeted killing. They also referenced earlier robberies in the area, including the killing of Mansoor Mahsud, urging stronger law enforcement to protect citizens.
Sohrab Goth DSP Aurangzeb Khattak stated that eyewitnesses confirmed the attackers first fired to stop Rahmanullah and later shot him again, resulting in fatal injuries. He added that the investigation is underway from multiple angles.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah expressed deep sorrow over the killing of the polio worker and condemned the attack as “an assault on humanity and the safety of our children’s future.” He directed the police and administration to bring the culprits to justice and extended heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family.
Authorities have since intensified security measures for vaccination teams in Karachi as the province mourns the loss of another polio worker in the line of duty.
