Polio Cases in Pakistan Rise to 27 as Hyderabad Confirms New Infection

ISLAMABAD:
Pakistan’s fight against polio faces another setback as the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) confirmed a fresh case in Hyderabad, Sindh. This latest infection raises the country’s polio tally to 27 in 2025, with Sindh alone reporting seven cases so far this year.

Health officials warned that polio remains an incurable disease capable of causing lifelong paralysis, urging parents to protect their children during every vaccination campaign.

The NEOC announced that the next nationwide polio vaccination drive will run from October 13 to 19, deploying more than 400,000 frontline health workers to go door-to-door and administer oral polio vaccine drops to children under five years of age.

Authorities stressed that the success of Pakistan’s polio eradication efforts depends on the cooperation of parents, community leaders, teachers, religious scholars, and the media. Their combined support is critical to halting virus transmission and safeguarding the health of future generations.

Despite steady progress in recent years, Pakistan remains one of the few countries where polio continues to cripple children, making continued vigilance and community participation vital to ending the threat once and for all.
