ISLAMABAD, September 29, 2026 — The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has registered 15 new medical and dental colleges across Pakistan over the past five years, expanding the number of institutions available for students seeking professional healthcare education.
15 New Colleges Added to PMDC Registry
According to documents submitted to the Pakistan Information Commission, the 15 institutions include 11 public-sector and four private-sector colleges. Although the information request covered registrations made over seven years, the records show that all 15 institutions were approved during a five-year period.
The registrations cover both medical and dental education institutions located in different parts of the country, increasing the number of recognised options for students pursuing MBBS and BDS programmes.
Public Sector Accounts for Most New Registrations
The public sector accounts for the majority of the newly registered institutions. Most of the newly registered public medical colleges have an approved intake of up to 50 students per academic session.
The six newly registered public medical colleges listed in the records are:
- Narowal Medical College
- Liaquat Institute of Medical and Health Sciences, Thatta
- Jhalawan Medical College, Khuzdar
- Loralai Medical College
- Makran Medical College, Turbat
- Khairpur Medical College
Four Private Medical Institutions Registered
Four private-sector institutions were also added to the PMDC registry. These include NUST School of Health Sciences and Bahria University College of Medicine in Islamabad, along with Abu Umara Medical and Dental College in Lahore and Akhtar Saeed Medical and Dental College in Rawalpindi.
The records indicate that the private institutions have been permitted to enrol up to 100 students per academic session, although individual approved capacities can depend on the institution and PMDC requirements.

Five New Public Dental Colleges Included
The registrations also cover five public-sector dental institutions. They include the School of Dentistry at Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University in Islamabad, CMH Institute of Medical Sciences Dental College in Multan, Rahbar College of Dentistry in Lahore, Niazi Medical and Dental College in Sargodha and Saidu Dental College in Swat.
The development comes amid continuing attention to standards, faculty availability and capacity in Pakistan’s medical education sector. In 2025, PMDC had imposed a moratorium on new medical and dental colleges, citing concerns about shortages of qualified faculty and educational standards.
