ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has rejected a report claiming that Pakistan Air Force (PAF) aircraft are being used in military operations against Yemen’s Houthis, calling the report “fake and fabricated.” The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued the clarification on Thursday.
Ministry Denies PAF Aircraft Deployment
The ministry said a New York Times report had attributed the use of PAF fighter jets against the Houthis to an unnamed source. Pakistani authorities rejected the claim and urged international media organisations to avoid speculative reporting about the deployment of the country’s armed forces.
The ministry added that details about any deployment of Pakistani military forces, if required, would be announced by the relevant authorities.
Statement Comes Amid Saudi-Houthi Escalation
The denial comes as fighting between Saudi-backed forces and the Houthis has intensified in Yemen. Saudi Arabia has launched a major air campaign against Houthi positions, while the group has carried out attacks targeting Saudi territory.
Pakistan has expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia and has committed to the implementation of its collective defence arrangements with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.
Makkah Joint Defence Agreement
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye recently agreed to move toward the practical implementation of their collective defence commitments under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement.
The agreement provides for coordinated defence measures and rapid deployment of agreed military capabilities in accordance with the countries’ respective laws and approved arrangements.
