The Government of Pakistan has announced an expansion of its laptop distribution scheme for students as part of efforts to strengthen education and support youth empowerment. At a laptop distribution ceremony held at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) in Islamabad, Wajiha Qamar, Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training, emphasised that providing laptops to young learners remains a central government priority and a key component of the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme. The initiative is intended to enhance access to technology, assist with online learning and research, and improve student skills across the country.
Qamar highlighted the role of modern technology in enabling students to compete in a rapidly evolving global education environment, urging recipients to use the laptops responsibly to further their academic and professional goals. Officials from the Higher Education Commission (HEC) noted that as part of the scheme, laptops were provided to 2,475 AIOU students, with hundreds distributed to students from Rawalpindi and Islamabad during the event and further distributions planned in provincial capitals.
The laptop programme reflects the federal government’s broader educational agenda to equip students with digital tools, reduce barriers to quality education, and empower youth to contribute meaningfully to national development.
