Pakistan and China Launch CPIC to Counter Misinformation

China-Pakistan Information Corridor

Pakistan and China have launched the China-Pakistan Information Corridor (CPIC) to strengthen media cooperation, address misleading narratives and promote cultural exchange between the two countries. The initiative was launched in Islamabad on October 27, 2026, with senior Pakistani and Chinese officials attending the ceremony.

Federal Information Minister Ataullah Tarar, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning and Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong attended the launch.

Speaking at the event, Tarar said the initiative would build on the two countries’ longstanding relationship by expanding cooperation in media, information sharing and digital platforms. He described the corridor as a way to connect people in both countries through greater communication and mutual understanding.

CPIC to Focus on Four Key Areas

The China-Pakistan Information Corridor will operate through four main pillars: media cooperation, business and enterprise, think tanks, and culture and tourism.

1. Media Cooperation and Fact-Checking

The media pillar will facilitate news exchange between Pakistani and Chinese media organisations. According to Tarar, a working group involving 18 media organisations from both countries will support the sharing of news and information.

A dedicated fact-checking mechanism is also planned to examine misleading narratives and respond with verifiable information.

2. Trade and Business Partnerships

The business and enterprise pillar aims to encourage commercial partnerships, trade and investment between the two countries.

Tarar said a regional office for this component had opened in Karachi. Plans also include a trade portal to track trade, investment and foreign direct investment, alongside a podcast series featuring Chinese entrepreneurs in Pakistan and Pakistani entrepreneurs in China.

3. Cooperation Between Think Tanks

The third pillar will bring together research institutions and policy experts from Pakistan and China.

Led by the Pakistan-China Institute, the initiative will support joint research, dialogue and publications. The objective is to encourage informed discussion of bilateral relations and identify areas for further cooperation.

4. Cultural Exchange and Tourism

Culture and tourism form the fourth pillar of the corridor. The initiative aims to increase people-to-people contact, promote cultural understanding and develop tourism links between the two countries.

One project under consideration is a tourism corridor connecting Xinjiang with Gilgit-Baltistan, intended to encourage Chinese visitors to explore northern Pakistan.

CPIC Builds on Pakistan-China Economic Cooperation

Tarar linked the new initiative to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which has supported cooperation in infrastructure, energy and connectivity.

He said that while CPEC had strengthened physical links between the two countries, the information corridor would focus on communication and public understanding. Chinese officials also highlighted the importance of accurate information and cultural awareness in strengthening bilateral relations.

The launch comes as Pakistan and China mark 75 years of diplomatic relations in 2026. The new corridor is intended to expand collaboration beyond economic projects into media, research, business and cultural exchanges.
