SEA‑ME‑WE 6 — the 19,200-km high-capacity submarine fibre-optic cable system linking Southeast Asia with the Middle East and Western Europe — has now been activated for Pakistan, marking a big step forward in the country’s digital connectivity.
The country has been allocated a total capacity of 13.2 terabits per second (Tbps) from the system, of which 4 Tbps is already live and ready for use.
This upgrade helps bolster Pakistan’s international bandwidth and supports cloud services, data centres, fintech, e-commerce, streaming and other digital-economy sectors.
SEA-ME-WE 6 comes with more fibre pairs and more than twice the capacity of earlier SEA-ME-WE cables. It also offers improved resilience thanks to both more diverse landing points and geo-diversified Egypt crossings.
Pakistan’s existing international submarine-cable footprint includes six other operational systems, and this addition strengthens redundancy while lowering the cost of network ownership for operators.
