MQM-P requests a long-term strategic master plan for Karachi

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), a coalition party in the federal government, has sought a long-term strategic master plan for Karachi from the center.

According to reports, the MQM-P team met with Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ashan Iqbal and presented a list of grievances about the city’s lack of municipal infrastructure.

The MQM-P’s spokesperson said in a statement that the party has requested the federal government to finish important uplift projects in Karachi, including K-IV, which is planned to give the city with 650 million gallons of water per day as soon as possible.

The MQM-P team, which included Senior Deputy Convener Dr Farooq Sattar, Syed Mustafa Kamal, Syed Aminul Haq, Javed Hanif, and Syed Hafeezud Din, briefed the federal minister about Karachi’s serious water deficit.

The MQM-P, a coalition party in the federal government, said that Karachi, Pakistan’s largest metropolis and economic powerhouse, was ‘starved’ of transportation services.

The group also requested that the government expedite the completion of other development projects, including as the Green Line Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) and the Karachi Circular Railway.

According to the party spokeswoman, Ashan Iqbal agreed with the MQM-P’s assessment of Karachi’s economic importance.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif met one-on-one with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah at CM’s House in Karachi to discuss provincial development projects. The premier arrived in Karachi early Wednesday morning for a day-long visit.

CM Murad complained about a Rs82 billion funding gap from the federal government. He also emphasized the problem of a lack of finances for the construction of dwellings for flood victims in the province.
