Moonis Alvi resigns as K-Electric CEO amid harassment controversy

Moonis Alvi resigns as K-Electric CEO

Syed Moonis Abdullah Alvi, Chief Executive Officer of K-Electric, has resigned from his position, local media report citing sources on Thursday. Alvi’s departure comes after months of mounting pressure linked to harassment allegations made by a former senior employee of the power utility, according to reports.

Insiders say the controversy began when a former chief marketing and communications officer accused Alvi and other officials of harassment, intimidation and creating a hostile work environment. A complaint was filed last year before the Sindh High Oversight Authority under retired Justice Shah Nawaz Tariq, which initially ordered Alvi’s removal and imposed a fine.

That order was later overturned by Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori, who declared the provincial ombudsman’s ruling null and void after reviewing evidence and procedural issues. Despite this, sources say the prolonged dispute and its personal toll contributed to Alvi’s decision to step down.

Alvi had been associated with K-Electric since 2008, holding senior leadership roles before being appointed CEO in 2018. During his tenure, he led initiatives including the widely known Roshani Baji programme.
