SUKKUR: Mir Ali Murad Khan Talpur, the last ruler of the former princely state of Khairpur, has passed away at the age of 93. He died on Monday in Sukkur, according to family sources.

Mir Ali Murad Khan Talpur Dies at 93

Mir Ali Murad Khan Talpur left behind two sons and a daughter. His son, Prince Mir Mehdi Raza Talpur, confirmed his death. Reports said the former ruler had been receiving treatment at a hospital in Sukkur.

He was born on June 29, 1933, in England and became the ruler of Khairpur in 1947 at the age of 14.

Khairpur’s Accession to Pakistan

Mir Ali Murad Khan Talpur played a significant role during the transition following the creation of Pakistan. Khairpur State acceded to Pakistan in 1947, bringing its separate political status into the new country.

The state later lost its separate status following the introduction of the One Unit scheme in 1955. Mir Ali Murad Khan Talpur remained associated with the history and heritage of the former state.

Funeral Prayers in Kot Diji

The funeral prayers of the former ruler are scheduled to be offered at 11am on Tuesday at Kot Diji. The news of his death has prompted mourning across Khairpur and other parts of Sindh.

Business centres and shops in Kot Diji were also reported to have remained closed as residents mourned his death.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah expressed sorrow over the death of Mir Ali Murad Khan Talpur. He said the late ruler’s contribution to preserving the history and culture of Khairpur State and Sindh would be remembered.
