A major fire erupted on Monday in Karachi’s Landhi Export Processing Zone (EPZ) at a factory that processes used clothing, quickly engulfing much of the building as highly flammable textile stocks fueled the blaze. Thick plumes of black smoke were visible from several kilometres away, prompting alarm among nearby residents and workers.
Emergency responders, including Rescue 1122 teams and multiple fire brigade units, rushed to the scene, where firefighters launched a large-scale operation to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to adjacent industrial units. So far, no casualties or injuries have been reported, though officials warned of significant damage to stored goods.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with thick black smoke billowing into the sky and causing concern about air quality and traffic disruptions in the surrounding area. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the cause of the fire, and operations to fully extinguish the blaze are ongoing.
