Lahore traffic authorities have announced stricter enforcement of traffic rules covering helmet use, lane discipline, overloading and underage driving as part of efforts to improve road safety and traffic management across the city.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi issued the directions during a meeting with traffic officials, where he reviewed measures under the “Safe Roads, Safe Punjab” initiative.
Zero-Tolerance Policy for Traffic Violations
The CTO directed officials to adopt a zero-tolerance approach toward several violations, including riding motorcycles without helmets, underage driving, overloading and violations linked to smog.
He also ordered officials to ensure that one-way and lane discipline violations are not visible across the city. Sector in-charges and DSPs will be held responsible for weak enforcement of helmet rules.
Traffic Arrangements at Lahore Entry and Exit Points
Officials were instructed to reassess traffic arrangements at all major entry and exit points of Lahore. The measures are intended to improve traffic flow and ensure that motorists follow designated lanes.
The directions also include stronger monitoring of commercial and goods-carrying vehicles operating within the city.
Crackdown on Overloaded and Uncovered Vehicles
The traffic authorities have ordered action against goods carriers and vehicles transporting sand, soil and straw.
Tractors, trailers and other loaders carrying these materials will not be allowed on roads without appropriate tarpaulin covers. The measure is aimed at reducing road hazards caused by uncovered loads.
