A tragic road accident in Lahore’s Garhi Shahu area claimed the lives of three members of the same family after a speeding 22-wheeler trailer crashed into their car on Allama Iqbal Road. The incident occurred late Wednesday night, October 14, 2026, when the car was stopped at a traffic signal.
The victims were identified as Muhammad Asim, his wife Huma Asim, and their young son, Talha Asim. The family belonged to Shah Jamal in Lahore’s Ichhra area.
The heavy trailer, reportedly carrying cement bags, crushed the car under its weight, leaving the occupants trapped inside the wreckage.
Rescue Teams Recover Bodies from Wreckage
Rescue 1122 teams rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the collision. Due to the extensive damage to the vehicle, rescuers used specialised equipment, including cutters and cranes, to retrieve the victims.
The car was severely crushed beneath the trailer, making the recovery operation difficult. Rescue personnel eventually recovered the bodies and shifted them for the required legal procedures.
Trailer Driver Flees After Fatal Collision
Following the accident, the trailer driver and other members of the vehicle’s crew reportedly fled the scene. Police registered a case at Garhi Shahu Police Station based on a complaint filed by Muhammad Bin Asim, the victims’ surviving son.
According to the complaint, the trailer driver was allegedly driving recklessly when the heavy vehicle struck the family’s car from behind. Police have launched an investigation to establish the circumstances of the collision and identify those responsible.
The trailer involved in the accident has been impounded as authorities pursue the case.
Punjab Police Chief Orders Action
Punjab Inspector General of Police Rao Abdul Karim took notice of the incident and directed senior officers to take immediate steps to arrest the driver and other individuals allegedly involved.
The DIG Operations Lahore was instructed to use all available resources to trace the absconding suspects, while the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore was asked to submit a report on the accident.
Authorities have also called for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, particularly against heavy vehicles violating speed limits. The incident has renewed concerns about road safety and the movement of large commercial vehicles on busy urban roads.
