Karachi police have arrested a suspect and initiated a search for others after a 17-year-old domestic worker was abducted and sexually assaulted in the Gulshan-i-Maymar area on Tuesday, authorities reported on Wednesday. The victim was admitted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where a police surgeon confirmed she had been subjected to sexual violence and medical samples were collected for forensic analysis.
According to police, the girl alleged that influential men kidnapped her and took her to an undisclosed location where they physically and sexually assaulted her. On arrival at the local police station, the victim’s family said the station house officer initially refused to register their complaint, prompting higher-level intervention.
Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho took serious notice of the matter, ordering the suspension and demotion of the SHO for delaying the first information report (FIR) and instructing the West SSP to conduct a detailed inquiry into the police response. A case has since been registered at the Gulshan-i-Maymar police station based on the victim’s brother’s complaint.
