A seventh-grade student from Karachi, Radhe Krishna, has developed a “smart stick” designed to help visually impaired individuals detect obstacles using sound and vibration alerts.
The device — showcased at the Bachaapreneur competition at the National Incubation Centre, Karachi — uses sensors to pick up objects within about three feet; as the object gets closer, the stick emits faster beeps.
Priced at roughly Rs 15,000, the smart stick is rechargeable and built from a custom kit assembled by Radhe himself.
Looking ahead, he plans to add GPS-based audio navigation, shrink the device’s bulky sensor box, and enhance it so it can detect ground-level obstacles as well.
