Karachi: A frightening incident in Nazimabad shook local residents on Monday morning when a school van suddenly caught fire, leaving six children with burn injuries, hospital officials reported.
The fire started near Kuba Mosque in Nazimabad around 7:30 a.m. Rescue officials said overheating or a short circuit may have triggered the blaze.
Emergency responders acted quickly and took the injured children to nearby hospitals. Three children were admitted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, while the other three received treatment at Civil Hospital Karachi. Eyewitnesses praised local residents for helping control the fire before it spread further.
Authorities confirmed the van was completely destroyed. Two children remain in critical condition, and officials are investigating the exact cause of the fire.
This is not the first such incident in Karachi. Earlier, a school van caught fire in Orangi Town, injuring at least 14 children. Rescue teams moved severely burned victims to the Civil Hospital’s specialized burns ward, while others received care at nearby hospitals.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about school transport safety in Karachi. Experts emphasize the need for regular vehicle maintenance and strict safety measures to prevent future accidents.
