Tensions escalated in Karachi as longstanding rival parties Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan (MQM-P) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) clashed over turf and governance issues. The meeting of the Karachi district coordination committee was disrupted when MQM-P members walked out, accusing PPP-led administration of bypassing their input and weakening the local government system.
The PPP-dominated Sindh government defended its actions, saying they are necessary to streamline city operations and curb entrenched party networks. Both sides traded harsh remarks, signalling the spectre of renewed street-level mobilisations ahead of upcoming elections.
