Karachi police detain 45 as Sindh Culture Day rally turns violent on Sharea Faisal

Karachi Sindh Culture Day rally arrests

During a Sindhi Culture Day rally in Karachi, law enforcement detained 45 people after clashes erupted between participants and police on Sharea Faisal. According to police, the rally-goers ignored orders to follow a designated route toward Karachi Press Club and instead tried to proceed along the main road via Jinnah Bridge.

Authorities say stones were hurled at officers, injuring five policemen, prompting a baton charge and use of tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. The detained individuals were taken into custody at the South Division, where the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) oversaw the operation and confirmed control over the situation.

Authorities had earlier closed the “Red Zone” — citing security concerns — and imposed a traffic advisory along main thoroughfares. Despite these measures, the rally transform into confrontation when demonstrators attempted to proceed toward restricted areas.

The incident underscores rising tensions around public demonstrations in Karachi and highlights the challenge of balancing cultural expressions with security protocols.
