Karachi Police plan to enhance the city’s electronic challan system by rolling out a mobile application that allows officers to issue fines for traffic violations observed directly on the road. Currently, e-challans are generated mainly through Safe City surveillance cameras. Under the new initiative, authorised traffic officers will install a dedicated app on their mobile devices. While on duty, if an officer spots a traffic violation, they will capture a photo through the app and submit it instantly. The system will then forward the image to a traffic police e-challan officer who will review the case and issue the challan, which will also list the reporting officer’s identification details. The application is reported to be ready and will soon begin trial operations in Karachi.
