Karachi Government Set to Cut E-Challan Fines Amid Public Backlash

Karachi e-challan fine reduction

The provincial government of Karachi is preparing to reduce the fines for numerous traffic offences under the newly-launched AI-powered e-challan system. Authorities acknowledged public backlash over the steep penalties imposed shortly after the rollout of the digital citation programme, which issued around 30,000 challans within its first week.

In addition, first-time violators will soon have the option to have their fines waived if they submit a written apology within ten days.

While the government insists the e-challan initiative will continue and expand across the province, the planned adjustments aim to ease the burden on citizens while retaining the system’s enforcement role.
