Karachi, October 11, 2026: Residents across Karachi are experiencing prolonged electricity outages lasting up to 18 hours a day, creating serious difficulties for households and businesses. The ongoing power disruptions have affected water supplies, mobile phone connectivity, and daily routines in several neighbourhoods.
K-Electric (KE) has linked the electricity supply problems to a nationwide shortage of regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG), which has affected power generation.
Karachi Residents Struggle With Prolonged Power Outages
Extended load shedding has disrupted everyday life in several parts of the city, with residents reporting water shortages, sleepless nights and interruptions to essential services.
Frequent power cuts have also affected cellular connectivity, making communication difficult for some consumers.
Residents have questioned K-Electric’s ability to maintain a reliable electricity supply, particularly in the evenings and at night when demand remains high.
Which Areas of Karachi Are Facing Load Shedding?
According to reports, the following areas are among those affected or expected to experience electricity disruptions:
-
Malir and Landhi
-
SITE and Baldia
-
Mauripur and Lyari
-
Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Gulistan-e-Jauhar
-
Gulshan-e-Hadeed and Scheme 33
-
Old City Area and Razzaqabad
The duration of outages varies by locality, and the reported maximum of 18 hours does not apply to every neighbourhood.
K-Electric Blames Nationwide RLNG Shortage
K-Electric has attributed the pressure on electricity generation to disruptions in international RLNG supplies and delays in fuel shipments.
According to the utility, the shortage has affected power generation across Pakistan, including Karachi.
A K-Electric spokesperson explained that additional load management could become necessary during evening and nighttime peak hours if the fuel shortage continues.
The company maintained that daytime electricity supply would remain largely stable and described additional load management as a last-resort measure.
Load Shedding Reported in Previously Exempted Areas
Electricity interruptions have also reportedly affected areas that were previously exempt from routine load shedding.
Reports indicate that K-Electric has introduced load management on some low-loss feeders connected to different grid stations.
Several feeders have also reportedly been shut down because of system overloading.
These developments have raised concerns among consumers who previously received relatively uninterrupted electricity.
Jamaat-e-Islami Demands Action Against K-Electric
Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi chief Monem Zafar has called on the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to take immediate action against K-Electric over prolonged electricity outages.
He criticised the increase in load shedding and questioned why consumers in some neighbourhoods were facing extended power cuts.
According to the JI leader, some areas are experiencing around 14 hours of daily load shedding, while others face outages lasting up to 18 hours.

K-Electric Working to Restore Normal Electricity Supply
K-Electric said it is coordinating with Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) and relevant authorities to address the fuel supply constraints.
The company stated that efforts are underway to restore normal electricity availability as soon as possible.
However, no confirmed timeline has been announced for the complete resolution of the situation.
For Karachi residents, the immediate concern remains the restoration of reliable electricity and a reduction in the disruptions affecting households, businesses and essential services.
