Karachi Extends Rickshaw Ban on 25 Major Roads for Two Months

Karachi extends rickshaw ban 25 major roads

The Karachi administration has extended its ban on the entry of two- and four-seater rickshaws on 25 of the city’s major roads for an additional two months to help ease chronic traffic congestion and improve vehicular flow on busy thoroughfares. The extension was formalised through a Section 144 notification, and law enforcement agencies have been directed to take action against violators, with local station house officers (SHOs) instructed to register cases under Section 188 of the law for breaches.

The restriction applies to key routes including Shahrah-e-Faisal, I.I. Chundrigar Road, Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Sher Shah Suri Road, Shaheed-e-Millat Road, Abdullah Haroon Road to Do Talwar, Shahrah-e-Firdousi, Stadium Road, Sir Shah Sulaiman Road, Rashid Minhas Road, Mauripur Road, Shahrah-e-Pakistan, Hub Road, University Road, Korangi Road (Qayyumabad to Korangi Crossing), Orangi Road, Super Highway to Malir Halt, and Surjani Town to Sohrab Goth, among others.

Officials said the extended ban will remain in force for the full period unless traffic conditions improve earlier, after which authorities will review the situation and decide on further action. The measure aims to streamline traffic on some of Karachi’s busiest urban arteries and reduce delays during peak travel times.
