Motorists in Karachi were fined more than Rs 710 million over the past month under the city’s e‑challan system, according to a report released by Karachi Traffic Police.
The data show that over 93,000 e-challans were issued across the city during that period.
The major violations included:
- Failure to wear seatbelts: more than 57,500 drivers fined, amounting to Rs 575.41 million.
- Riding motorcycles without helmets: 22,257 riders fined, totaling Rs 111.135 million.
- Other offences included speeding (dumpers, trailers, water-tankers), signal violations, tinted windows, use of fancy number plates, wrong-lane driving, and stop-line breaches — all contributing to large share of the fines collected.
Traffic police have urged motorists to comply with road-safety rules, stressing that enforcement is intended to protect lives and not merely collect revenue.
