In a push to curb illegal parking, the Karachi Police are preparing to deploy specialised “robot cars” that will patrol key zones such as Saddar and Tariq Road. These automated units, travelling at approximately 20 km/h, will use smart cameras to detect vehicles parked in no-parking areas and will automatically issue e-challans through the city’s digital enforcement system.
The system is being linked to the existing e-challan infrastructure, aiming to improve efficiency, reduce human intervention and ensure more consistent enforcement of traffic rules. Residents are also urging authorities to reassess the fine amounts, citing concerns that penalties may be disproportionately high compared to other regions.
