Karachi Dense Fog Disrupts Traffic and Diverts Flights

Karachi dense fog flight and traffic disruption

Dense fog in Karachi on Sunday morning drastically reduced visibility across major routes, causing significant disruptions to road traffic and forcing several international flights to be diverted, officials reported. The fog enveloped key parts of the city—including the Super Highway, Scheme 33, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Clifton—making travel difficult for motorists during early hours. Visibility dropped to near zero, particularly affecting high-speed corridors and main arteries.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the city recorded a minimum temperature of 17.5°C, with visibility gradually improving after sunrise as the fog dissipated.

Aviation sources stated that at least six international flights originally bound for Karachi were diverted due to poor visibility, with some rerouted to Muscat and a flight arriving from Jeddah sent instead to Islamabad as a precautionary safety measure.

The Met Office forecast dry weather for the next 24 hours, with temperatures expected to remain cold at night and during early mornings. Daytime highs were projected between 27°C and 29°C, slightly lower than the previous day’s 30.8°C, while winds were expected at 5–15 km/h and humidity variable between 40 and 95 percent.
