Security agencies in Karachi have apprehended four suspects tied to the militia group Zainebiyoun Brigade during separate operations, and preliminary interrogations reveal their foreign connections.
The Counter‑Terrorism Department (Sindh) (CTD) reports the detainees admitted to links with Iran-backed networks and involvement in sectarian activities within Sindh province.
Authorities say the arrests highlight the persistent threat posed by militant cells operating in Karachi, exploiting transnational ties to further sectarian violence. The investigation is ongoing, with intelligence officials cautioning about sleeper networks awaiting activation.
According to the CTD, the suspects were arrested following intelligence-based raids in Karachi’s east and central districts, where arms, communication equipment and extremist literature were seized. Their confessions point to recruitment, training and logistical support that extend beyond Pakistan’s borders.
Security analysts note that this development serves as a warning: even as the Zainebiyoun Brigade has been officially proscribed in Pakistan, its network continues to operate covertly, leveraging regional backing and local grievances to fuel instability.
