The Karachi administration has announced a two-month daytime ban on the entry and movement of dumpers and heavy vehicles within the city in a bid to reduce congestion and improve road safety. Under the notification, dumpers and other heavy trucks will be restricted from entering Karachi between 6:00 am and 10:00 pm, though designated routes have been established for essential heavy traffic to transit the periphery outside these hours.
According to the directive, heavy vehicles travelling from major highways such as the Super Highway, National Highway and Northern Bypass have specified alternative routes that lead to industrial areas or out of central city zones during the daytime ban period. Authorities have warned that drivers violating the restrictions could face enforcement actions under existing traffic laws.
The measure responds to a spike in traffic accidents and gridlock attributed to high volumes of heavy trucks and construction dumpers navigating urban roads, which has raised public safety concerns and prompted calls for stricter traffic controls. The ban is scheduled to remain in effect for the next two months as part of efforts to streamline traffic flow and reduce the risk of collisions involving large commercial vehicles.
