The Karachi administration has de-sealed a number of street-side tea shops (chai dhabas) and fast-food outlets after their owners agreed to comply with newly issued Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
These SOPs were drafted by a committee formed under Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi and require the eateries to limit their footprint: on roads wider than 100 feet, such businesses are prohibited.
Restaurants and dhaba owners, represented by the Hotel Owners Association, submitted written assurances confirming they will adhere to the rules, prompting the authorities to reverse the sealing of 255 previously shut outlets.
