The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has formally requested the academic record of Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri’s law degree from University of Karachi (through Higher Education Commission, HEC), as part of an ongoing inquiry into allegations that his LLB degree may be invalid.
A division-bench of the IHC — comprising Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar and Justice Muhammad Azam Khan — ordered HEC to obtain and submit the relevant academic documents, along with degree verification data from the university.
The court explicitly stated that the request for records is “without reference to merit,” indicating that the step is procedural and not a judgment on the quality or authenticity of the degree.
An authorised HEC officer and a Karachi University official have been summoned to assist the proceedings. The case has been scheduled for further hearing on December 9, 2025.
