FCC custodian of constitutional supremacy: Chief Justice Aminuddin Khan sets bold vision

FCC custodian of constitutional supremacy

Aminuddin Khan, Chief Justice of the newly formed Federal Constitutional Court (FCC), said on Friday that the court must uphold the Constitution with transparency, independence and integrity, and protect fundamental rights as its foremost responsibility.

Describing the FCC’s establishment under the 27th Constitutional Amendment as a “significant milestone” in Pakistan’s legal journey, he said the body should become the guardian of constitutional supremacy and a symbol of justice for future generations.

Justice Khan emphasised that the court’s mandate extends beyond mere adjudication: “The role of this court is not merely judicial; it is a sacred trust that directly affects the lives, freedoms, and aspirations of the citizens of the nation.”

At the same time, legal analysts note that the FCC’s creation has been controversial—critics argue that the amendment undercuts judicial independence and centralises power in the judiciary.
