Farooq Sattar Economic Policies

Karachi, October 14, 2026: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader and Member of the National Assembly Dr Farooq Sattar has urged the federal government to reconsider its economic policies following the deaths of five members of a family in Karachi, amid reports of financial hardship.

In a statement on Wednesday, Sattar expressed grief over the incident and said the tragedy should prompt policymakers to reflect on the economic difficulties faced by ordinary citizens.

He called for practical measures to address poverty, inflation and unemployment, stressing that government policies should provide meaningful relief to low-income and middle-class households.-

Farooq Sattar Calls for Immediate Economic Relief

Sattar said the incident highlighted the pressure that financial difficulties can place on families struggling to meet basic needs.

He questioned the effectiveness of economic policies if households could not afford sufficient food for their children.

The MQM-P leader urged the government to prioritise policies that improve living standards and provide support to people facing severe financial challenges.

He also stressed that the government’s responsibility extended beyond expressing sympathy, calling for concrete steps to address the causes of economic distress.

MQM-P Leader Acknowledges Government’s Responsibility

Sattar acknowledged that his party was part of the governing coalition and said government representatives must recognise their own responsibilities.

He argued that political leaders should assess whether existing policies were adequately addressing the public’s needs.

According to Sattar, efforts should focus on reducing inflation, expanding employment opportunities and improving financial support for vulnerable households.

He called for a people-focused economic approach that would help families manage rising living costs and access essential necessities.

Five Family Members Found Dead in Karachi

The remarks followed the discovery of five members of a family at a house in a private housing society near Gulshan-e-Hadeed, in Karachi’s Bin Qasim area.

Police identified the deceased as Shahzaib, 30, a property dealer; his wife, Saba, 28; his sister, Shumaila, 20; and the couple’s daughters, Aizal, five, and Arya, three.

Their bodies were discovered during the night between Monday and Tuesday.

According to police, investigators recovered a handwritten note that referred to financial difficulties and strained family relationships. The circumstances surrounding the deaths remain a matter for investigation.

Police Investigate Financial Hardship Allegations

Investigators are examining the evidence recovered from the residence, including the handwritten note.

The note reportedly described the family’s financial problems and unsuccessful attempts to obtain assistance from relatives.

However, the full circumstances of the deaths have not been independently established, and the contents of the note should not be treated as conclusive proof of the cause.

Police investigations are important to establish the sequence of events and determine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

Calls Grow for Policies to Address Poverty and Unemployment

The incident has renewed attention to the financial pressures facing households in Pakistan, particularly those struggling with living expenses and limited employment opportunities.

Sattar called on policymakers to reassess economic measures and introduce targeted support for deserving families.

His proposals included reducing inflationary pressure, creating jobs and ensuring that government assistance reaches people who need it.

He also emphasised the importance of translating public statements into practical action.
