Eight Killed, Including Newlyweds, in Islamabad Gas Cylinder Blast

Islamabad gas cylinder blast wedding casualties

At least eight people were killed and more than a dozen wounded when a gas cylinder exploded inside a home during a wedding celebration in Sector G-7/2 of Islamabad early on Sunday, officials and rescue teams said. The blast occurred while guests were present in the house, causing part of the structure to collapse and damaging at least four neighbouring residences.

Among the deceased were the newlywed bride and groom, authorities confirmed, while 11 others were injured and taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for treatment as emergency services rushed to the scene. Rescue workers used equipment and sniffer dogs to remove all those trapped under rubble during the operation.

Islamabad police and local administrators have initiated an investigation into the cause of the blast, with early indications suggesting a gas cylinder leakage triggered the explosion. Officials have stressed the need to determine the precise cause and have urged residents to exercise caution with gas cylinders, which are commonly used in homes where natural gas pressure is low.
