Customs Seizes Gold and Undeclared Cash at Karachi Airport

Pakistan Customs officials at Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) in Karachi have intercepted and seized gold and undeclared foreign currency in two separate smuggling attempts, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) said in a statement on January 17, 2026. In both incidents, customs teams discovered a total of 10 gold bars (100 tolas) and $11,900 in undeclared cash during passenger baggage and body examinations. The combined value of the seized gold and currency is approximately Rs50.68 million. In the first case, officers detected three 10-tola STB gold bars hidden inside mobile phones and $4,900 in foreign currency in a passenger’s wallet. In the second case, seven gold bars were uncovered in checked luggage, and $7,000 was recovered during a body search of another passenger bound for Istanbul. FIRs have been registered under the relevant provisions of the Customs Act, 1969, and investigations are ongoing.
