Chicken Rates Fall Significantly in Karachi Amid Border Closure with Afghanistan

Chicken prices in Karachi have dropped markedly following the closure of borders with Afghanistan, which has disrupted poultry exports and reduced overall demand.

According to the Sindh Poultry Wholesalers Association (SPWA), live birds are now being sold at Rs 350–370 per kilogram, down from Rs 460–540 in September. Retail prices for boneless chicken have fallen to Rs 700–800 per kilogram, compared with Rs 1,000–1,100 in September.

While the price drop is welcome for many consumers, the SPWA flagged concerns over dining outlets: despite lower wholesale rates, restaurants are still charging high prices for chicken dishes—one-kilogram servings of chicken karahi are reportedly priced at Rs 2,000–2,200.
